Description

The Outline presents an overview of the editor content.

It is always kept in sync with the editor in focus. This video shows how you can open the view in case you've accidentally closed it, search and customize its content, and how to use the Quick Outline pop-up version.

Overview

The Outline View presents an overview of the editor's content.

Accessing the Outline View

It is usually located to the right side of the editor. If the view is not visible, open it from Window > Show View > Outline.

The view is automatically updated to show the content of the focused editor.

Navigating with the Outline View

Type a few letters in the quick search box to locate a specific element.

Click on an element to jump to its location inside the current file, or use the up and down arrows.

Sorting and Filtering Elements

The elements in the Outline View can be sorted alphabetically or by category. The default ordering mirrors the source code structure. You can further customize the Outline View by filtering some categories of content.

Using the Quick Outline View

While editing, it is more convenient to use the Quick Outline View. Simply:

  1. Press Ctrl+O
  2. Filter
  3. Use the up and down arrows to select an element
  4. Press Enter
