DVT Eclipse IDE Custom Dialogs - Part II - How to Use Custom Dialog Snapshots

Overview

All the values that you enter in various input fields of a Custom Dialog are automatically saved as a "snapshot". The next time you open the Custom Dialog, you'll see the values that you previously entered, as they are restored from the snapshot.

This video shows you how to use and organize your snapshots: save particular snapshots with meaningful names, delete or update them. It also reveals a quick way to share the current dialog inputs, for example by email or instant messaging, using the "Copy to clipboard" and "Paste from clipboard" functionality.

Introduction

When running a custom dialog, the values of the widgets will be either:

  • those of the previous run of the dialog
  • the default values for the first run.

The default values of the dialog are stored in the default snapshot.

Using Custom Dialog Snapshots

You can save a snapshot of your selections on the dialog and use it later. DVT also saves your last run snapshot if you have changes in the selected snapshot. The Save feature also allows you to update a snapshot.

If you have unnecessary snapshots, you can delete them.

You can use the Copy to Clipboard and Paste from Clipboard to quickly share a snapshot.
