44.48 In Block (Column) Selection mode I see strange editng artifacts

Please make sure the Text Editor Block Selection Font is a monospaced font:

go to General > Appearance > Colors and Fonts
in the list on the right, under the Basic category you should see Text Editor Block Selection Font
The font should be monospaced
